A busy road beside the QEW in Mississauga will be reduced to a single lane of traffic for five consecutive nights/overnights starting Thursday (May 4) as crews continue work on the highway bridge over the Credit River.

Officials with the QEW/Credit River Improvement Project overseeing the major bridge rehabilitation work say South Sheridan Way, between the QEW eastbound off-ramp and Indian Grove Rd., will see one lane closed to traffic between May 4 and May 9 from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following mornings.

The lane closure will allow for temporary paving and other work related to the ongoing rehabilitation of the bridge.

Additionally, Premium Way, between Stavebank Rd. and Lynchmere Ave., will be down to one lane on weekdays between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. through June 30, project leaders say.

Officials say two-way traffic will be maintained at all times via flagging operations and all streets and roads will be accessible.

Meanwhile, four lanes of the QEW in the heart of Mississauga will continue to shut down each night/overnight through the end of May.

Two eastbound and two westbound lanes between Erin Mills Pkwy. and Hurontario St. will be closed at various times in the late evening and overnight hours each night through May 27, with the exception of May 19.

The lane closures were initially scheduled to take place from April 16 until May 6, but project leaders say they needed to extend that period by three weeks.

The lanes will stay open on Friday, May 19 leading into the Victoria Day weekend.

The westbound QEW lane closures through May 27 will take place from as early as 11 p.m. to as late the following morning as 7 a.m., depending on night of the week.

Eastbound closures will take place from as early as 10 p.m. to as late as 7 a.m. the following morning, again depending on night of the week.

Additionally, closures are also planned in other areas between May 3 and 5.

Mississauga Rd., between South Sheridan Way and the QEW westbound off-ramp, will be reduced to a single lane on those three nights/overnights from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

On May 4 and 5, the QEW westbound off-ramp at Mississauga Rd. will be fully shut down to traffic from midnight to 5 a.m.

Temporary nighttime/overnight closures have been commonplace since last fall both on the QEW and nearby roads due to the massive project that began well over a year ago.

More traffic disruptions are anticipated as work proceeds in the coming months. Night and weekend work along the 2.6-km stretch of the QEW from Hurontario St. to Mississauga Rd. is expected to impact traffic for the duration of the project.
