Highway 401 ramp work at Brock Road in Pickering

One of Durham Region’s busiest highway on-ramps will close next week for six months for an overpass rehabilitation project.

The eastbound Highway 401 on-ramp at Brock Road will close starting April 15. Nightly closures from midnight to 5 a.m. began this week in advance of the full closure.

The nearest eastbound Highway 401 access points will be Whites Road in Pickering and Westney Road in Ajax.

The ramp was also closed overnight on March 29 to facilitate emergency concrete repairs.

The work is not being led by the City of Pickering, but municipal officials issued a notice to let residents know construction will affect traffic flow, travel times and access.

The Ministry of Transportation is carrying out the rehabilitation work in the Brock Road and Highway 401 area to “help maintain critical transportation infrastructure” and support the safe movement of people and goods through an important regional corridor.

Stage 4 of the project is scheduled to run from April to September and will include work on the east side of Brock Road, the CN overpass structure and the Highway 401 bridge.

Timelines may change if the province approves a scope change to add a dedicated northbound Brock Road to eastbound Highway 401 right-turn lane.
