A busy public transit express bus route in Mississauga’s north end will soon begin delivering more frequent and new service to passengers.

MiWay, the City of Mississauga’s public transit provider, said Route 107 Malton Express will offer more frequent weekday and Saturday service, as well as new Sunday service, beginning next Monday.

Upgrades on that route come in response to growing ridership demand, officials at MiWay said.

As of Oct. 27, the following improvements/new service will take effect on Route 107 Malton Express:

  • Weekday service will operate 15 minutes or better between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m.  — weekday midday frequency drops from 22 minutes to 15 minutes while weekday afternoon rush hour drops from 13 minutes to 12 minutes.
  • Saturday service will operate 20 minutes or better between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m.  — Saturday core frequency drops from 28 minutes to 20 minutes, Saturday service will start earlier at 8 a.m. and end later at 9 p.m., and all trips on Saturday will operate between City Centre Transit Terminal and Humber College.
  • New Sunday service will operate 20 minutes or better between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. , Sunday service will operate between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m., and all trips on Sunday will operate between City Centre Transit Terminal and Humber College.

Also due to increased customer demand, and to address overcrowding, the following routes will provide more frequent service on weekdays starting Oct. 27:

  • 2 Hurontario: from 11 minutes to 10 minutes from 2-6:30 p.m.
  • 51 Tomken: from 15 minutes to 13 minutes from 1:30-6 p.m.
  • 71 Sheridan: an additional trip will be added in the morning and  afternoon rush periods.

Meanwhile, a new express bus will take transit riders in Mississauga from the city’s western border all the way to Toronto, also starting on Oct. 27.

The introduction of MiWay’s Route 135 Eglinton Express is among a number of service upgrades to take effect starting that same day.

Route 135 Eglinton Express will operate as a new weekday peak express route along the Eglinton corridor and Mississauga Transitway, officials at MiWay said.

The bus will travel from Winston Churchill Station in the west to Renforth Station at the Toronto border in the east, via Eglinton Avenue and the Mississauga Transitway.

“This new route will provide new connections to local MiWay bus service along the Eglinton corridor  and the transitway, and to regional GO bus service at Winston Churchill and Renforth stations,” MiWay said in an online update.

The express service will run every 12 minutes on weekdays from 6-9 a.m. in the morning and 3-6 p.m. in the afternoon. Service frequencies on Route 35 Eglinton will be adjusted from 9 to 10 minutes to 12 minutes to better align with this new service, transit officials said.
