A busy portion of James Street North will close next week for two weeks for several City of Hamilton construction projects.

Starting Monday (Aug. 16), James North between Cannon and Barton will be closed until August 30 as part of the Central Neighbourhood upgrades project in downtown Hamilton.

According to a City press release issued Wednesday (Aug. 11), the scope of work includes:

  • Intersection improvements at the corner of James St N and Mulberry St
  • Watermain and sewer replacement
  • Road and sidewalk reconstruction
  • Road resurfacing

Detours will be mapped out for motorists and HSR buses, including Barton, Bayfront, and the A-Line will be detoured for the duration of the project. Those details can be found on the City’s website.

“Businesses in the area will remain open for the duration of the construction,” the release said.

“With the exception of parking permit holders, there will be no parking available on side streets to the west side of James St N, including Colbourne St, Sheaffe St, Park and Mulberry.”
