Burlington road street construction delays traffic detour

A very busy road in downtown Hamilton will be closing next week for a month as the city completes several infrastructure upgrades in the area.

Starting on Monday (April 4), Cannon Street between MacNab and Bay Street will be closed for approximately four weeks while crews work to improve the intersection at Park and Cannon.

The scope of work includes:

  • Watermain and sewer replacement
  • Road and sidewalk reconstruction
  • Road resurfacing
  • Intersection improvements

The City of Hamilton said work is expected to wrap up on or before May 2, 2022, weather permitting.

“Motorists and cyclists should follow signs for detour,” the City said in a press release.

“Motorists and HSR passengers should expect delays along Cannon St W and should allow extra time on their commute.”

Local access around the worksite will be maintained, the City said, but through access at the Park and Cannon Streets intersection will not be possible. On-street parking will also be limited for the duration of the project.

“Businesses in the area will remain open throughout the duration of the construction,” the release said.

“Residents and businesses impacted by noise, dust or changes in water services will be notified in advance.”
