Brock University’s expansion into Burlington will be the topic of the next Business Before 9 meeting on Friday, Sept. 9.

Presented by the Burlington Chamber of Commerce and Burlington Economic Development, this will be an opportunity for the community to hear directly from both the university as well as the City.

Lynn Wells, Brock’s interim president and vice-chancellor, will be one of the two guest speakers at the event.

Wells is a scholar, teacher and university leader, with more than 15 years of experience in senior academic leadership positions. In 2020, she was appointed as provost and vice-president Academic and last year also became interim president.

A respected scholar in her field of contemporary British fiction, Wells has published two books and numerous articles. Her fields of scholarly interest include urban representations, literary ethics and surveillance studies.

She has served on the executive committee of the International Association for Philosophy and Literature and as a board member for the Canadian Federation for Humanities and Social Sciences.

The other keynote speaker will be Burlington Mayor Marianne Meed Ward.

Meed Ward is working collaboratively with Burlington’s city council, leadership team, staff and community partners to help the city grow and thrive through action plans such as Burlington’s new Official Plan that will ensure future growth happens in the right places and at the right scale to align with the community’s vision.

There will be an opportunity to submit your questions in advance or during the event. Business leaders are encouraged to participate so they can identify how this will impact their business and the Burlington community.

The event runs 7:30 to 9 a.m. and breakfast is included. Tickets cost $39 and can be purchased here.
