MiWay buses that get high school students to and from classes will take a two-week break later this month as Mississauga’s transit provider alters its services for the holiday season.
As usual, free MiWay rides on New Year’s Eve are also among the annual service changes, which this year take effect Dec. 22 and continue through Jan. 4.
City of Mississauga transit officials said the adjustments to service this holiday season will again keep passengers in mind, whether they’re doing some shopping or visiting family and friends.
MiWay officials add that taking the bus eliminates worries of driving in winter weather and searching for a parking spot at busy malls.
“During the holiday season, from Dec. 22 until Jan. 4, MiWay will be adjusting its levels of service based on anticipated customer demand,” transit officials said in a news release on Thursday.
For high school buses, MiWay says all 300-series bus routes will be out of operation Dec. 22 to Jan. 4 as schools will be closed.
Service changes related to all bus routes include:
- December 22 to 24 — reduced weekday service.
- December 25 — regular Sunday service.
- December 26 to 27 — regular Saturday service.
- December 28 — regular Sunday service.
- December 29 to 31 — reduced weekday service.
- January 1 — regular Sunday service.
- January 2 — reduced weekday service.
- January 3 — regular Saturday service.

On days with reduced weekday service:
- Route 18 Derry will operate less frequently.
- Route 101A Dundas Express will not service the University of Toronto Mississauga.
- Route 110A University Express, 126 Burnhamthorpe Express and 135 Eglinton Express will not operate.
On days with regular Sunday service:
- Route 61 Mavis will have some trips removed.
- Route 66 McLaughlin will have some trips removed.
Regular MiWay service will resume on Monday, Jan. 5, transit officials say.
On New Year’s Eve, MiWay will offer free service to riders from 7 p.m. on Dec. 31 until 4 a.m. on Jan. 1.
In addition, the following bus routes will offer extended late-night service until 4 a.m. on Jan. 1:
