Bus and train rides are free of charge on New Year’s Eve in Mississauga

People planning to celebrate New Year’s Eve in Mississauga can ride the transit buses and trains for free both before and after the big party.

Officials at MiWay, Mississauga’s public transit provider, say passengers can ride the buses free of charge from 7 p.m. on Sunday night until 4 a.m. on the morning of Jan. 1.

MiWay is also offering extended late-night service until 2 a.m. on Monday morning on the following routes:

  • 1 Dundas
  • 2 Hurontario
  • 3 Bloor
  • 5 Dixie
  • 7 Airport
  • 10 Bristol-Britannia
  • 11 Westwood
  • 13 Glen Erin
  • 17 Hurontario
  • 23 Lakeshore
  • 26 Burnhamthorpe
  • 61 Mavis
  • 66 McLaughlin

Meanwhile, GO Transit is also offering free all-night service to riders on New Year’s Eve into the following morning.

Both GO train and GO bus rides will be free to all customers from 7 p.m. on New Year’s Eve until 8 a.m. Monday morning.

“In addition, GO Transit will run extra late-evening trips into Union Station in Toronto to help customers travelling downtown as well as a variety of special trains from Union Station after midnight to help them get home safely,” the transit agency said in a news release.

Extra trips will be offered on:

  • the Lakeshore East and West GO lines — trains will depart regularly from Union Station from 12:30 a.m. until 7:30 a.m.
  • the Kitchener Line — trains will depart Union Station regularly from 12:35 a.m. until 5:35 a.m.
  • the Milton Line (which has a number of Mississauga stops) — two additional trips heading westbound to Milton GO at 1:25 a.m. and 3:55 a.m.

In addition, GO’s UP Express, the train service connecting Pearson Airport in Mississauga and downtown Toronto, will be free to passengers after 7 p.m. with the last UP Express train departing Union at 11 p.m. and 11:27 p.m. at Pearson.

Extra GO bus service is also planned for New Year’s Eve, transit officials note.
