A 58-year-old Burlington woman is facing charges of assault and mischief following an anti-mask protest that took place before Christmas.

Halton police made the arrest last week after their investigation into the protest that took place at Mapleview Mall.

On Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2021, around 6:30 p.m., a group of about 20 unmasked people went into the food court area against the direction of security staff on site.

In addition, they didn’t follow the mall’s rule of showing proof of vaccination.

No arrests were made at the time, but further investigation determined a security guard had been assaulted, although he did not suffer any injuries.

The accused was released from custody pending a court date of Feb. 9. Halton Regional Police have refused to identify the woman.

Anyone with information regarding this investigation is asked to contact Acting Sergeant Mark Urie of the Burlington District Response Team at 905-825-4777, ext. 7556.

Tips can also be submitted anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or through the web.
