The idea of the City of Burlington buying the Robert Bateman High School site from the Halton District School Board is one step closer.

The plan would see the city agree to allow the school board to house the Gary Allan Learning Centre there for a period of at least 25 years while partnering with Brock University, which has expressed interest in a Burlington campus.

The school board first expressed its intent to sell the site, located at 5151 New St., in June. The City of Burlington immediately threw its hat in the ring.

Burlington made its offer official in December. The school board likes the idea of maintaining a visible and continued presence in southeast Burlington while continuing to offer educational programs in the community.

Officials from both the city and school board will continue to work towards a deal.
