Playing in her first-ever Wimbledon Open, Burlington’s Victoria Mboko made quite a name for herself.

The 15-year-old, who has been climbing the ranks in the girls tennis world, entered the event as the fifth seed. She made it to the semi-finals before losing 6-4, 6-3 to the No. 1 seed and eventual champion, American Liv Hovde.

In the girls doubles, Mboko and her partner Kayla Cross, also from Canada, were the fourth seeds and made it to the finals before losing to Rose Marie Nijkamp from the Netherlands and Angella Okutoyi of Kenya. The marathon match was extremely close, with Nijkamp and Okutoyi prevailing 3-6, 6-4, 11-9.

Mboko has spent most of 2022 playing tennis around the world. She competed in both the Australian and French opens, as well as tournaments in Brazil, Tunisia and Italy.
