Burlington Public Library makes changes to borrowing programs

The new year has brought some changes to familiar programs at the Burlington Public Library.

Changes will begin this month and were made to give more people access to the systems books, magazines and other collections.

First, the Inter-Library Loan has returned (ILL).

Given a pause during the pandemic, the ILL is now back where you can suggest a title for acquisition that the library doesn’t already own. Under this program, the library can borrow the item from another system instead of purchasing which keeps costs down.

The second change is with the Lucky Express program involving the system’s most popular titles.

Now that the Lucky Express collection has grown, the library will no longer have a limit of two books and two DVDs. For this program to work smoothly users must make sure to return these items on time so that as many as possible can have access to high-demand titles.

Lastly, the magazine loan period will change from 21 days to seven days.

This move comes in response to customer feedback concerning the timeliness of the time-sensitive of magazines.

Magazines can be renewed up to 10 times if there are no holds on them. Almost all magazines are available online through the Burlington Public Library through OverDrive and Pressreader! With OverDrive, and its app, Libby, these digital titles can be borrowed for seven, 14 and 21-day periods.

A more thorough explanation of these changes can be found here.
