One of the ways Burlington plans to spend the proposed 5.8 per cent increase in municipal taxes is on additional speed cameras.

The proposed 2023 budget, which would see homeowners taxes increase 7.09 per cent when including Halton Region and school board increases, includes the implementation of automated speed enforcement featuring installed signs, collecting speeding data, and establishing community safety zones.

If approved, the cameras would be installed in 2024.

Budget talks will continue at committee meetings scheduled for Feb. 6, 7 and 9 and local residents can delegate at the meetings by emailing the clerks department at [email protected] or by calling 905-335-7777, ext. 7481.

Approval of the 2023 budget is expected to head to Council on Feb. 14.
