Two males walked into Oakville’s Film.Ca Cinemas and Burlington’s Cine Starz theatres in broad daylight last Wednesday afternoon (Feb. 23) and slashed several movie screens, doing thousands of dollars of damage.

Police also believe the same two males also slashed a movie screen at the Princess Cinemas in Waterloo later that night at 7 p.m.

Investigators suspect the theatres were targeted because of a film they are all playing titled “Bheemla Nayak”.

The 2022 Indian Telugu-language action drama film directed by Saagar K Chandra is a remake of the 2020 Malayalam film “Ayyappanum Koshiyum by Sachy.

Police say they are also investigating historical events with similar circumstances in 2020 and 2021 that occurred in Oakville and throughout the GTA.

An Oakville theatre had to stop screening foreign films after similar incidents occurred last year.
