Burlington Mayor Marianne Meed Ward is confident there will be live, in-person events at Spencer Smith Park this summer.

What they’ll actually look like, however, is anyone’s guess.

“There are ways to do outdoor events, even larger ones, safely,” Meed Ward said during an exclusive interview with insauga.com publisher Khaled Iwamura.

“We did some of that last year. There was a food truck festival and the line was practically down to the Hamilton pier. But people were wanting to be out and about and respected the health precautions.”

Meed Ward said she’s an optimist and that there will be both a Sound of Music Festival and Ribfest, regardless of the status of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“In some form, absolutely. It may look a little different, but we’re going to seem some good things this summer.”
