David Rutherford of Burlington went to bed and “woke up a millionaire.”

The sports and media agent’s bank account is a lot bigger today after winning the $1 million prize in the August 11 Lotto 6/49 draw.

He also matched the last number on ENCORE which brought his total winnings to $1,000,002.

Rutherford is still trying to process the win, but says the OLG commercials are right.

“Buy a ticket for a chance to win,” he said. “I bought a ticket, went to bed and woke up a millionaire!”

Rutherford said he usually buys a ticket for each draw and asks for a Quick Pick. He had to check the numbers over and over when he realized how much he won.

“I usually check my tickets on the OLG App and this one I checked about 50 times, because I couldn’t believe I had won so much,” he said.

Rutherford, who purchased his winning ticket at Maple Convenience and Dollar on Fairview Street in Burlington, plans to share his windfall with family and invest some of it. “I am beyond excited,” he said.
