The Burlington Public Library’s annual writing contest has a bit of a twist this year.

In recognition of the organization’s 150th anniversary, this year’s submissions must include either ‘Burlington’ or ‘150’.

Neither of the terms, however, have to be central to the story, they could be included in an address or name, for instance.

The contest is open to everyone aged 10 and up, including adults and submissions can include poems, comics or short stories.

Other rules for the contest include:

  • Entrant must live, work, or attend school in Burlington.
  • All short stories, comics, and poems must be unpublished, original work of the entrant. Fan fiction is not accepted.
  • Only one entry per category will be accepted.
  • The winner in each category will be notified and their submission will be posted on the library website.

There will be a total of nine categories, three age groups – 10-12, 13-17 and 18+ — in each of three categories — short story, poem and comics.
