Nico Daws, a 20-year-old goalie from Burlington, is getting his shot in the NHL.

Daws, who was born in Germany, was recalled from the minors yesterday and joins Brampton native Scott Wedgewood as the goalie tandem for the New Jersey Devils.

The Devils lost to Washington Capitals last night 4-1 but Daws didn’t play. His best chance to make his debut will be over the weekend when the Devils play three games in four nights starting Saturday.

Daws played with the Burlington Eagles, Burlington Cougars and Toronto Marlboros as a teenager before spending three seasons with the Guelph Storm of the OHL.

He was a third-round pick of the Devils in the 2020 draft. He played with the 2020 Canadian team in the World Junior Hockey Championships.

Last year he spent the season with the German club ERC Ingolstadt

Daws joins Montreal Canadiens forward Josh Anderson as the only other Burlington product in the NHL.
