It was a rough start to 2022 for a novice driver in Burlington after say they clocked the motorist driving more than twice the speed limit.

According to a post on Twitter, members of the Halton Regional Police Service stopped a driver for going 130 km/h in a 60 km/h zone in the first hour of the new year.

The driver, who has a G2 license, was reportedly in a rental vehicle when they were caught speeding in the area of New St. and Appleby Line.

Police said that the driver received a licence suspension and the rental vehicle impounded.
