The City of Burlington and the Town of Oakville were recently named two of the safest Canadian cities in 2021, according to University Magazine.
While Canada is generally considered a safe country to live in, Burlington and Oakville have both made a top 10 list of safest cities in the country that was featured on the magazine’s website.
The list references Numbeo, a website that compares the safest cities in and around the world. The cities mentioned in the list are based on specific criteria such as low crime rates, the community’s trust in the police as well as the police’s overall responsiveness.
Burlington came in at number seven on the list, with a crime index of 28.90 and a safety index of 71.10.
Numbeo’s data also reported that the level of crime in Burlington is low along with residents’ general worries of being a victim of a crime.
The city was ranked “high” when it came to residents feeling safe walking alone during the day and night.
Oakville came in at number four on the list with a crime index of 25.90 and a safety index of 74.10.
Additionally, Numbeo reported that the level of crime in the town is low along with residents’ general worries of being a victim of a crime.

While the crime rates in both Burlington and Oakville have increased in the last few years, Halton Regional Police Services (HRPS) have received numerous awards for their service.
The list also featured Guelph, Kingston, Montreal, Waterloo, Ottawa, Coquitlam and Markham with Quebec City taking the number one spot.insauga's Editorial Standards and Policies
