Burger’s Priest, the small chain of Toronto-based top-end hamburger joints that have attracted a devoted band of followers, is coming to Pickering Town Centre.

Durham Region’s first location of the Burger’s Priest will open May 1, with select individuals invited to a pre-opening party April 30.

Founder Shant Mardirosian, a California-born, Mississauga-raised native, found religion and came to Toronto with the hope of attending seminary school. Instead, he opened his first Burger’s Priest location on Queen Street East in June 2010 with “350 square feet, four stools and a small meat grinder.”

Mardirosian sold the company in 2017, which is now owned by Recipes Unlimited, formerly Cara Foods.

Today there are more than 25 locations across the GTA as well as Ottawa and Edmonton serving their signature smash burgers, hot dogs, chicken tenders and sammies, fries and shakes.

Pickering will be location #27 and the first franchise location.

Fresh – never frozen – and simple toppings are the sacrament of the Burger’s Priest, who serve 13 different varieties of burgers, including The High Priest (two patties, secret sauce, American cheddar), California Classic, Vatican City, Holy Smokes (double cheeseburger with panko-crusted fried jalapenos), The Option (veggie) and the Hot ‘n Honey, which some call the best chicken sandwich in the GTA.

To get a ticket to the early bird event (free burger and fries for you and +one), go to the Burger’s Priest Instagram and like the post, follow them and tag your plus one and time slot.

The contest closes today at midnight.

Burger’s Priest is located between entrance 2 & 3, beside East Side Mario’s.
