markham carjacking has connection to mississauga.

One man has been arrested and two others are being sought by police in connection with an investigation into a late-night “bump-and-run” carjacking in Markham in which the stolen vehicle was found a short time later near Toronto Pearson Airport in Mississauga.

York Regional Police said the victim was stopped at an intersection at Warden Avenue and Highway 407 at around 11:30 p.m. on March 3 when his car was struck from behind by a second vehicle.

When he stepped out of his car to check on the damage, the victim was assaulted by two males and his vehicle was stolen, police said in a news release on Monday.

The pair of attackers fled the scene in the man’s car while a third culprit was behind the wheel of the vehicle that had caused the initial minor collision.

That car, which also raced away from the scene, is described as a white sedan, police said.

The victim sustained minor injuries.

The following day, the stolen vehicle was recovered near Matheson Boulevard East and Orbitor Drive in Mississauga, just south of the airport, according to investigators.

Subsequent investigation led to an arrest and charges were laid this past Thursday.

Waheed Rahmati, 22, of no fixed address, is charged with robbery, disguise with intent and two counts of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

At the time of his arrest, the accused was already in custody for unrelated offences, police said.

The other two males wore dark face coverings and dark clothing during the March 3 carjacking.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and they’re seeking the public’s help in tracking down the other suspects.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 1-866-876-5423, ext. 6630, or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477.
