Fire Burlington Oakville park

Firefighters had their work cut out for them early Sunday morning (April 21) as they rushed to douse several brush fires at a park along the Burington and Oakville border.

Reports say fire crews were called to Burloak Waterfront Park around 1:30 a.m. answering calls indicating that nine separate fires were set.

While some damage to the vegetation occurred, firefighters say they were able to easily handle the flames.

A subsequent police investigation has led to an arrest in the case.

Police say a 39-year-old man has been charged with arson as well as failing to comply with a probation order.

The unnamed man has since been released on bail and awaits a court appearance.

Anyone who can assist the police with this case is asked to contact investigators at 905-825-4777.
