Want to cycle from Thorold to Niagara Falls without working up too much of a sweat? Well, even though the two municipalities are adjacent, there is a more relaxing, scenic route.

Thorold’s long-running ferry, “Bridge-it,” which has been offering cyclists, hikers, walkers and even pets a water route since the mid-1970s, is now open daily from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. for the 2022 season.

The Bridge-it route follows the Grassybrook Road to the Niagara River Recreational Trail and connecting to the Greater Niagara Cycle Route, running through the Welland Canal. So yes, it’s a much longer way to travel but a fun one.

Thorold Mayor Terry Ugulini says “Bridge-it” is the only ferry service on the Welland Canal and offers free transportation to all passengers, adding the city is grateful to Niagara Region for their partnership on the popular seasonal attraction.

The ferry is set up for day trips between the east and west sides of Port Robinson in Thorold.
