Healthy fast food is coming to downtown Oakville.

Oakberry Açaí Bowls & Smoothies is opening a new location at 327 Lakeshore Rd. E. in June.

Designed to meet what it calls an unattended demand in the food market, Oakberry’s açaí is 100 per cent natural. Their recipe contains no food colourings, artificial preservative or guarana syrup.

Not everyone has enough time to eat healthy and fill up on energy, which is where Oakberry comes in.

“Our mission is to provide a delicious, natural, and nutritious experience quickly, changing the way fast food is perceived,” Oakberry said on its website. “We believe that time and good health are determining factors in our quality of life. We want to change the way fast food is seen and thought of.

“This is the main reason why Oakberry exists. Lack of time will no longer be an excuse for not eating well.

Açaí is a berry from the Euterpe palm, a native tree to the Amazon rainforest in Brazil, an area with a tropical climate that has abundance in water.

The açaí pulp has about 15 per cent of the fruit and is a natural antioxidant that “neutralizes free radicals.”

It is rich in minerals like Potassium and Calcium, Vitamin E, healthy fatty acids like Omega 6 and 9, and proteins.

Customers can order a bowl with toppings ranging from organic and vegan granola, banana, strawberry and peanut butter to almonds, honey and Chia seeds.

With smoothies, customers can get three toppings in a whipped drink.

Brazil-based Oakberry has over 600 stores in more than 30 countries located as far as Australia, Germany and Portugal, as well as Mississauga and Toronto.
