If you’re looking for Indian food that’s tasty, creative, unique and accompanied by a well-crafted fine dining atmosphere (without fine dining prices), you might be happy to hear that a brand new Indian fusion restaurant is calling Mississauga’s quaint Streetsville neighbourhood home.

Amantra Food Fusion, an elegant but affordable Indian and Asian/North American fusion restaurant that just opened on Queen St. S., offers an expansive menu filled with fun fusion appetizers, traditional curries, authentic desserts and more.

Cheeseburger Egg Rolls

When you first walk in, you might think you’re about to sit down to a fancier meal than initially anticipated. To be fair, the dishes aren’t “cheap” or even particularly simple–the restaurant simply puts its best foot forward with an elegant grey colour palette and sophisticated look and feel.

The food itself, however, is indeed the main event.

The large menu has a lot to offer those looking for straight up butter chicken, as well as people who are in the mood for something a little off the beaten path.

Some commendable menu items?

The cheeseburger egg rolls ($8.49), the masala chicken quesadillas ($8.99), Amantra’s special chaat (chaat over crushed samosa–not something to be missed for $6.99) and the mac n’ cheese butter chicken ($7.99).

Amantra’s Special Chaat

While the food is tasty overall, there’s something particularly special about the mac n’ cheese butter chicken (featured in the cover photo). Generously portioned and teeming with satisfying hunks of tender chicken, the dish doesn’t taste like macaroni with bits of chicken and some curry. It’s a flavourful, comforting, decadent dish–one that you’ll likely crave again.

The cheeseburger egg rolls are also a nice dish, adding a bit of playfulness to the already diverse and experimental menu.

You can top your meal off with some paan kulfi ($4.99) if you dare.

Overall, Amantra is a good place to check out if you’re a fan of Indian cuisine that isn’t afraid to play with the classics.

It’s also great for a date night, regardless of whether you’re on a budget or not.
