Brampton’s video mastermind behind Drake, Rihanna and Kanye added to Canada’s Walk of Fame

Julien Christian Lutz, also known as Director X, will be inducted along Canada's Walk of Fame

Director X, also known as Julien Christian Lutz, will be planting his Brampton-bred feet along Canada’s Walk of Fame.

Lutz, who has gained international fame and acclaim for directing music videos for such superstars as Drake, Rihanna, Kendrick Lamar and Kanye West, will be joining broadcaster Barbara Frum and musicians The Tragically Hip’s as 2022 inductees announced today (Aug. 9).

Sporting legend Lionel Conacher, businessperson Heather Reisman, comics Just For Laughs, as well as musicians Deborah Cox and the Arkells were earlier announced as 2022 inductees.

The Walk of Fame acknowledges the achievements and accomplishments of Canadians who have excelled in their respective fields. It sees the embedding of a plaque into the sidewalk along the Theatre District in downtown Toronto.

Lutz spent 16 years in Brampton and attended both Mayfield and North Park Secondary Schools before moving to New York as a teenager to pursue a career as a filmmaker. He was inducted into Brampton’s Arts Walk of Fame in 2018.

Once in New York Lutz earned the moniker “Director X” as he quickly earned a reputation for exciting and unique videos that has attracted major stars.

As a filmmaker his first effort was the 2018 remake of the 1972 movie Superfly and he is currently working on the TV series Robyn Hood.

Canada’s Walk of Fame gala and induction ceremonies will take place on December 3.
