Police are investigating after a commercial driver from Brampton was killed in a multi-vehicle rear-end crash on an Ontario highway.
The collision happened around 6 a.m. on Monday in Clarington along Highway 401 at Holt Road, the OPP says.
A highway closure was already in place for a separate incident when the crash happened, with police saying three vehicles were involved.
Traffic was slowing for the closure when the driver of a commercial motor vehicle rear-ended another commercial motor vehicle, investigators say.
“The commercial motor vehicle continued on the right side, sideswiping a third commercial motor vehicle,” the OPP said in a release.
Police say the driver of the first commercial motor vehicle was a 29-year-old from Brampton who was pronounced dead at the scene. Additional details about the victim, including the name of the deceased, have not been publicly released.
The earlier crash involved two passenger vehicles around 12:10 a.m. near Bowmanville Avenue.
Officers from the OPP Highway Safety Division are investigating the collision.
