Commuters travelling between Brampton and Caledon will have more transit choices when Brampton Transit expands into its neighbouring municipality next month.

The announcement came last Thursday that the city would be extending Brampton Transit’s route 18 Dixie with trips north of Mayfield Road into Caledon.

There will be nine daily trips on the Dixie Road route during peak hours, mid-day and evening hours when the line extension opens on Sept. 5.

With local businesses employing some 1,500 employees and 500 daily transit users, the increased service will give workers “a safe and convenient way of getting to and from work along” Dixie Road.

The new stop on Dixie Road will be at the UPS Hub in Caledon, and the town says it got input from the company and other local businesses when planning the route.

“We’re thrilled to have a new route that offers a safer and better commute for our employees,” said Tara Redmond, VP of buildings and systems engineering for UPS. “They will benefit from the convenience of a bus stop right on the UPS property.”

“This new route furthers our Town’s Strategic Plan as we are working towards a town-wide transit strategy to expand transit and partnerships. Our goal is to increase access to public transit for our residents and businesses.

Caledon Mayor Annette Groves said the route extension will help the town achieve its goal of increasing access to public transit for our residents and businesses.

“We know this will take time but are very excited to see progress…I look forward to more success with our transit goals,” Groves said in a release thanking Brampton Transit, UPS and the local employers who worked to develop the new route.
