Brampton teen charged in Toronto jewellery store armed robbery

A young man from Brampton is facing robbery, drug trafficking and weapons charges after a gunpoint jewellery store robbery in Toronto last month.

On Feb. 24, police were called to a jewellery store in the Gerrard Street East and Coxwell Avenue area in Toronto.

Police say that a masked man entered the store and pulled out a handgun, ordering the employee to lay on the ground before the suspect opened the door allowing two more men to enter the store.

The men allegedly stole a substantial amount of jewellery and fled the scene with the stolen property.

While investigating the armed robbery, the Toronto Police Service Hold Up Squad say they were able to identify one of the suspects.

On March 3, police say officers located the suspect travelling in a vehicle with a passenger.

Officers stopped the vehicle and arrested the man, and police say they also seized a loaded handgun and a quantity of cocaine inside the car.

The passenger was also arrested.

Jahsyah Thomas, 19, of Brampton is facing nearly a dozen charges, including:

  • Robbery With a Firearm
  • Disguise With Intent
  • Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
  • Possession Firearm Knowing Serial Number Tampered With
  • Pointing a Firearm
  • Possession Schedule I substance for Purpose of Trafficking

Richard Longrin, 25, of Vaughan, has been charged with:

  • Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
  • Unauthorized Possession Firearm in Motor Vehicle
  • Carry Concealed Weapon
  • Possession Firearm Knowing Serial Number Tampered With
  • Possession Schedule I substance for Purpose of Trafficking

The accused were scheduled to appear in court at Old City Hall on March 4.
