Brampton teen charged after alleged joyride in stolen car and a run from police

Police have laid half a dozen charges against a 16-year-old from Brampton after an alleged early morning cruise in a stolen car.

Around 7:15 a.m. on Thursday, officers from the Peterborough Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) say they responded to a motor vehicle collision on Hwy. 7.

Police say one of the vehicles in the crash was reported stolen from the Greater Toronto Area, and the driver of the stolen vehicle fled the scene on foot.

Police say the suspect was found by officers in the Village of Norwood and placed under arrest.

No injuries were reported in the incident.

As a result of the crash a 16-year-old from Brampton has been charged with:

  • Possession Property obtained by crime under $5000
  • Possession Property obtained by crime over $5000
  • Fail to remain
  • Class G1 licence holder-unaccompanied by qualified driver
  • Obstruct peace officer
  • Drive vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available

None of the allegations have been proven in court. The teen is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on Jan. 10.
