Brampton’s Junior Hoilett is now the all-time assist leader in Canadian men’s soccer team history.

Hoilett, 31, set the record with a pair of helpers in Canada’s 4-1 win over Martinique at the 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup, on Sunday.

“It is a great honour to represent the country and set a record for this country for assists,” said Hoilett.

“With the team we have here, it makes it easy for me to get those assists because we have great finishers and a great all-around team. It is a honour playing with this group of brothers and I can’t wait for the next game.”

Hoilett has recorded 14 assists for the national team since making his international “A” debut in 2015. He co-led Canada with three assists in 2016 and co-led Canada with four assists in 2019. Through five matches in 2021, he has four assists.

Hoilett surpassed Dwayne De Rosario for the all-time record.

Along with setting Canada’s all-time record, Hoilett also owns the Canadian record for all-time assists at the Concacaf Gold Cup with four, two in 2019 and already two more in 2021.

Hoilett has played internationally since 2003 in England, Germany and Wales.
