A senior citizen from Brampton is unhurt but has been charged with crashing into a commercial vehicle near London.

The Elgin County OPP says there was a crash on Hwy 401 yesterday (Nov. 24) around 3:45 p.m. in Dutton-Dunwich, some 45 kilometres south of London.

Police say the driver of a passenger vehicle collided with a commercial vehicle providing protection to workers on the westbound side of the highway.

The work vehicle was equipped with a “crash truck,” or Truck Mounted Attenuator, which is a device that helps absorb the impact of a collision.

There were seven people inside the passenger vehicle, and none of the occupants were injured in the crash. The driver of the commercial vehicle was also unhurt in the crash.

Police have charged a 72-year-old from Brampton with careless driving. Police did not disclose any information about the accused, and none of the allegations have been proven in court.

The crash led police to remind motorists to be careful and slow down when approaching service vehicles conducting repairs and maintenance on highways.

“These workers use all necessary safety precautions to allow them to complete their work each day and return home safely to their families,” the OPP said in a statement.
