Police put a number of Brampton schools on hold-and-secure orders today following reports of a man with a gun at a grocery store.

Peel Regional Police say officers were called to a grocery store near Cottrelle Blvd. and Hwy 50 in Brampton just after 2:30 p.m. on Friday (May 19) after a man entered the store and said he had a gun.

No injuries were reported but police say the man then fled the store with an undisclosed amount of property.

Police put schools in the area on hold-and-secure orders as a precaution but the partial lockdowns were lifted a short while later.

The suspect is described as a male in his late 20s with long, shoulder-length hair. He was wearing a black baseball cap and a brown bag at the time of the incident.

Anyone with information on the suspect is asked to contact Peel Regional Police at (905) 453-2121.

Information may also be left anonymously by calling Peel Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or visiting peelcrimestoppers.ca.
