OPP’s Quinte West Detachment has made an arrest after a resident recently lost thousands of dollars in a lottery scam.

The victim received a phone call from a person claiming to represent a lottery, informing the victim that they had won over $2 million.

The suspect then requested a sum of money from the victim to release the prize winnings, defrauding the victim out of approximately $3,000.

Following a police investigation, the suspect was identified and a warrant was sought for their arrest.

On Tuesday, August 23, York Regional Police arrested 59 year old Clive Lothian from Brampton, who was then transferred into the custody of the Quinte West OPP.

Lothian is charged with fraud under $5,000, two counts of personation with intent (identity fraud), and harassing communications.

The accused has since been released with a scheduled court date of September 29, 2022.

Residents who have become a victim of fraud are advised to visit the Canadian Anti Fraud Centre‘s website for next steps.
