Brampton rent higher than Ontario average as province-wide price drops 5%: report

The Brampton rental market saw prices come down less than a per cent last month while average asking rents were down more than 5 per cent Ontario-wide.

Ontario saw the second-largest rent decrease across Canada in April, with average rents dipping 5.2 per cent to $2,216. B.C. had the biggest drop in average asking rents, down 5.9 per cent to $2,336.

But in Brampton, the average asking rent for all property types was higher than the province-wide average at $2,228 in April, down slightly from $2,239 in March.

Average asking rent for one-bedroom units dipped by around 0.2 per cent month-over-month to $1,939 in April, down from $1,942 in May. Two-bedroom rentals also saw a slight drop of 0.9 per cent to $2,283 in April from $2,304 the previous month.

With an average rent of $2,228, Brampton ranked at No. 17 on the report’s list of the 20 most-expensive places to rent in Canada – down from No. 18 in March. Ajax came in at 20th ($2,192), followed by Waterloo ($2,210) and Kingston ($2,228).

North Vancouver had the highest rental rates in the country with an average of $3,001.

Canada-wide, the average asking rent declined 4.7 per cent year-over-year in April, falling by $100 to $2,027. That marks the 19th consecutive month of year-over-year drops, according to the report. Units with four or more bedrooms, like houses and townhomes, saw the largest annual decline in rents, down 5.3 per cent to an average of $2,888.

One-bedroom rents dropped the most compared to April 2025, down 4.3 per cent to an average of $1,778.
