Brampton just named a multi-use sport’s court after former resident and famed Chicago Bulls manager Marc Eversley.
In a ceremony on Saturday (Nov. 5), the City of Brampton unveiled the new name — Eversley Multi-Use Court — in at Bruce Beer Park, 37 Bruce Beer Dr.
Eversley was born in London, England but his parents moved the family to Toronto when he was four years old, in 1973. They moved to Brampton a few years later and Eversley attended Cardinal Leger Secondary School.
He became the first black general manager of the Chicago Bulls in 2020.
Eversley’s father, wife, Jen, and daughter Nora along with friends from high school were at the unveiling.
Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown told the crowd gathered that Eversley is a role model and an example for children in the community.
“For me to look at those kids at the park from the Brampton Youth Basketball Association, it’s great. The next time they play on that court, they have the opportunity to see my name on the court, which is really neat,” Eversley told NBC sports.
“It may spur them to ask questions about who I am, why is my name on the court. If they do some research, the hope is I inspire one of them to study my path, learn something from that path and then apply some of those lessons.”
Eversley became the Toronto Raptors assistant general manager in 2006. He then went on to work with the Washington Wizards and the Philadelphia 76ers.
Brown said re-naming the court after Eversley is a way to celebrate role models.
“The city is proud of you, the city loves you,” Brown said. “Thank you for being such an inspiration to the city of Brampton.”
