Liam Millar, who grew up playing in Brampton and Oakville, is returning to the soccer pitch in England.

The 23-year-old Canadian national player is moving on from FC Basel and the Swiss Super League after securing a loan for the 2023-24 season to Preston North End in the English Football League (second tier of British soccer) earlier this month.

The forward had 13 goals in 98 games in two seasons with the Swiss club after leaving Liverpool in July of 2021.

Millar began his career in England at Liverpool FC’s youth academy, before leaving permanently in 2021. Though he made just one appearance for the Reds, it made Canadian soccer history as he became the first Canadian to ever play for Liverpool.

The new forward joins the Lilywhites with the club sitting atop the English League Championship after five games with four wins and a draw. An impressive performance could help earn the Canadian a spot in the English Premier League next season.

Millar, who played for Canada in the World Cup in Qatar last November, has represented Canada nationally 21 times.
