Three men from Brampton face numerous charges after a store employee who tried to stop a robbery was dragged behind the getaway car.

Shortly before 7 p.m. on September 8, a man bolted out of a store in Guelph with a cart of stolen goods. An employee noticed the thief leaving the scene and followed behind.

As the cart-pusher approached a waiting getaway car, with the employee hot on his heels, another man stepped out of the car brandishing a hatchet.

The employee continued to try and stop the robbery and ended up being dragged behind the getaway car about five metres. The employee declined any medical treatment. The suspects got away with around $600 worth of goods.

The Guelph Police Service launched an investigation right away and quickly identified some suspects. On September 16, officers tracked those suspects down to Caledon.

In concert with the Caledon OPP, officers stopped a car in Caledon carrying three suspects who were all arrested.

All three men, who Guelph police did not identify, are from Brampton. Two are aged 25 and the third aged 29. They all stand charged with several offenses including; robbery with a weapon, assault with a weapon, possessing weapons for a dangerous purpose and dangerous driving.

The trio will appear in a Guelph courtroom on September 20. The stolen goods were not recovered.
