Brampton mayor and city councillors kick off St. Patrick’s Day celebrations

Mayor Patrick Brown and City councillors have kicked off Irish Heritage Month and St. Patrick’s Day celebrations and are encouraging the community to participate.

In honour of St. Patrick’s Day and to celebrate Irish Heritage Month, the City of Brampton will be hosting a reception on Friday, Mar. 17 which will be hosted in partnership with Carabram’s Rover Club/Irish Pavilion.

The celebration will kick off at 10:00 a.m. with the community flag-raising at Ken Whillans Square and will include a traditional Irish breakfast, music and performances.

The reception will follow at 10:30 a.m. at the City Hall Conservatory and will feature a free traditional Irish breakfast by Spot One Catering, an Irish Dance performance by Celtic Academy Canada and opening and closing remarks by Hugo Straney.

The celebration will also feature greetings from Mayor Patrick Brown, an Irish Dance performance by DeVoy Academy​ and a live musical performance by The Wild Geese.

In a video posted by Mayor Brown meant to kick off the celebrations, he is joined by Councillors Paul Vicente, Rowena Santos and Dennis Keenan, who are all wearing green for the occasion.

 

“In honour of St. Patrick’s Day, join us for live musical performances, Irish dancers and our very own leprechaun,” reads the City of Brampton’s website.

The event will go on until 12:00 p.m.
