A Brampton man was found dead in Lake Scugog, north of Oshawa, on Monday after disappearing over the long weekend.

The man, 27, was out on the lake in a pontoon boat 8 p.m. on August 5 when he fell overboard off Fralicks Beach. This beach sits on the northwestern side of Scugog just above the Great Blue Heron Casino near Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation territory.

Following a 911 call, Durham Regional Police and York Regional Police, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Scugog Fire launched a search complete with boats and a helicopter. The search continued over the weekend until the man’s body was found across the lake at Gibson’s Point on August 7.

The discovery was reported later that day, but police did not confirm it until August 8. At that time police also shared the man’s age and confirmed he was from Brampton. However, they did not identify him.

Anyone with information about the man can call Durham police at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 2696 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). Anyone concerned about Durham Region’s waterways can call the Marine Unit at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 5251.
