Police have identified a man found dead in Hamilton as Taranpreet Singh Sidhu – a 29-year-old man from Brampton who was the victim of a homicide.
The Hamilton Police Service made the announcement on Thursday after police were called to a culvert near the north end of Fruitland Road around 8:15 a.m. on Wednesday for a report of an unresponsive person.
Sidhu was pronounced dead at the scene, police say.
The cause of death has not been released, and investigators say Sidhu was not killed in the area where he was found. Investigators believe his body was transported and dumped in the area but have not released information regarding the suspect vehicle.
A truck driver who lived in Brampton and Halifax, Sidhu immigrated to Canada from India in 2022, police say.
Hamilton police say Peel Regional Police are assisting in the investigation and ask anyone with information to come forward.
Police say anyone who has had contact with Sidhu or has information about his movements leading up to his death to contact police. Investigators are particularly interested in hearing from anyone who may have surveillance, dash camera, or doorbell camera footage.
