A Brampton man has been charged following an investigation into a smuggling ring that attempted to get $32,000 worth of contraband into an Eastern Ontario prison.

A joint forces operation by the Ontario Provincial Police including the Penitentiary Squad arrested three people on January 5 outside the Bath Institution near Kingston.

The team, along with Correctional Service of Canada staff, seized cellphones, cannabis, tobacco and other items worth $32,000.

Ian Green, 29, of Brampton is charged with conspiracy to commit and indictable offense.

Khadedra Knight, 27, of Vaughn and Antoine Rose, 29, of Toronto are also charged with conspiracy to commit and indictable offense.

They have been released from custody and are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in March.

Shaquwone Rose, 25, an inmate at the facility, has been charged with conspiracy to commit an indictable offence and participation in a criminal organization.
