Brampton man charged after woman sexual assaulted while shopping with her kids at Vaughan Mills mall

A man from Brampton faces charges after a woman was sexually assaulted in the Vaughan Mills mall yesterday.

Around noon on August 24, York Regional Police responded to the mall at 1 Bass Pro Mills Dr in Vaughan after a report of a sexual assault.

The victim, 27, was shopping with her children when a man approached her a began to speak to her. The man then took a picture of the victim and her kids. He then grabbed the woman and touched her “in a sexual manner,” per YRP.

Neither the victim nor her children were physically hurt in the incident.

Police launched their investigation immediately and soon found a suspect. YRP arrested Sunilbhai Modi, 57 of Brampton, and charged him with sexual assault.

Police are investigating if there are other victims and ask any who may be out there to come forward.

“A sexual assault includes any non-consensual contact of a sexual nature. York Regional Police would like to encourage anyone who feels they may have been a victim of a sexual assault to come forward and report the incident,” investigators said.

YRP stressed, “There is no statute of limitations for sexual offences and offenders can be prosecuted well after the date of the offence.”
