Brampton man charged after woman escapes alleged kidnapper in Cambridge

A Brampton man has been charged with human trafficking and firearms offences after a woman in Cambridge escaped an alleged kidnapper this week.

Around 9:45 a.m. on Monday (April 11), police say members of the Waterloo Regional Police were called to a hotel in Cambridge in the area of Holiday Inn Drive.

When officers arrived on scene they found the call had come from a woman who was in need of assistance.

Police took the woman to a safe location and a short time later police say they located a male who was placed under arrest.

The 26-year-old Brampton man was been charged with over a dozen offences including trafficking in persons, pointing a firearm, possession of an identity document, forcible confinement and advertising sexual services.

Police have not released the name of the accused who was held in police custody for a bail hearing.

The victim has been provided with support services from Waterloo police Victim Services.
