A man from Brampton has been arrested in connection to a series of alleged sexual assaults against a minor nearly 20 years ago.

The allegations stem from January 2003 to 2004 when the victim was a 12-year-old girl and the suspect was 33. They connected online via social media and began a relationship.

This lead investigators to “remind parents and youth to be vigilant of online communications.”

The alleged sexual assaults occurred in Whitby. Years later the victim came forward to Durham Regional Police Special Victims Unit who launched an investigation.

Emmanuel Demedeiros, 52 of Brampton, is charged with sexual assault, sexual interference, invitation to sexual touching, luring to possess child pornography and luring to make child pornography.

Demedeiros allegedly operated under the online alias Joe Viveiros. Police are trying to identify any possible further victims.
