Brampton is set to sweep the streets clean

The City of Brampton has started its 2021 street sweeping program on residential streets and there are a few things you should know.

Sand and debris is swept from City roads during the spring to keep streets and sewers clean. This prevents debris from clogging storm sewers and provides safe and clean roads for drivers and pedestrians. The spring sweeping program includes:

• All City-owned roads with a top coat of asphalt, including bridges, catch basins and gutters
• Hard-surfaced boulevards and medians
• Sidewalks and walkways plowed by the City during the winter
• Parking lots at City of Brampton recreation centres and other City facilities
• Country roads without curbs are flushed and/or swept as required
• Sidewalk sweeping
• Removing salt boxes and snow fencing
• Power washing boulevards
• Sod repair
• Picking up litter, in partnership with the City’s Parks Department

During the Spring Sweep Program, residents are reminded to:

•  Not park on residential streets between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday to Friday
•  Ensure vehicles parked on driveways are not hanging over onto the street
•  Place garbage containers and recycling boxes away from the road on collection days
•  Keep basketball and hockey nets off the road and far enough back from the curb
•  Be understanding. While street sweeping is underway, there may be some noise and dust
•  Be patient since cold and rainy weather prevents street sweepers from operating. The temperature needs to be consistently above zero for the program to operate
