An intersection in Brampton was closed Wednesday evening after a motorist struck a cyclist, who has been taken to a trauma centre.

That was the first of two collisions, reported to Peel Regional Police within a span of 20 minutes, that has led the police to advise motorists to use alternate routes.

The first collision occurred at Williams Parkway and Dixon Road. The intersection is closed and the driver of the car has remained on the scene.

There was also a two-vehicle collision at Queen Street East and the Humber West Parkway that was reported to Peel Police around 9:56 p.m. on Wednesday. One person was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The roads are open, but traffic is heavy in the area.
