Brampton hosting economic empowerment and anti-Black racism conference

The City of Brampton will be hosting its very first virtual Economic Empowerment and Anti-Black Racism conference.
The conference will bring together several municipalities, Black community leaders and representatives from across the province and form a national coalition of municipalities addressing economic empowerment and anti-Black racism for Black communities in Canada.
Attendees include Sylvia Jones, Solicitor General and Minister Responsible for Anti-Racism and Peter Flegel, Director of the Government of Canada’s Anti-Racism Secretariat.
Together, municipal members will discuss strategies to break down barriers for Black people.
The discussion will focus on how to begin working towards eliminating Black racism and developing a supportive and informative platform to access anti-Black racism resources with the goal of building strong partnerships that promote knowledge sharing and future initiatives.
“This conference will bring together municipal representatives from across the province who champion diversity and inclusion, working to address anti-Black racism and ignite real change,” said Mayor Patrick Brown.

This conference is one out of two that the City of Brampton will be hosting this year. Another conference, that will focus on economic empowerment will be held in December.
