The City of Brampton is hosting a two-day virtual Power of Black Media conference.

The goal is to highlight positive images in the media and encourage Black young adults to choose that as a career.

The conference is being hosted by the City of Brampton’s Social, Cultural and Economic Empowerment and Anti-Black Racism Unit June 8 and 10, from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

According to organizers, Black communities have not always been represented properly in mainstream media, and continue to be misrepresented. To change the narrative, there has been a strong desire from Black young adults to push for more positive images in the media, and as a result, more Black young adults are choosing careers in the media, including owning their own media companies and platforms.

The conference will seek to educate on the importance, responsibility, and power of Black media and the role it plays in eradicating anti-Black racism. The conference is also an educational and networking opportunity for Black media professionals, media students, community organizations, and businesses.
